A day of indabas inspired by our current exhibition Phil Shung's "FrancoFiles: Visual Exploration of Negritude in Senegal, Haiti and New Orleans"

  • 12 pm : "Value and Importance of Diaspora Consciousness" with Dr. Hilary Jones, Author of The Metis of Senegal, Indiana University Press (2013)

  • 2 pm : Artist Talk with Gene Tinnie and Phil Shung

  • 4 pm : "Soul on Ice" - The Other Side of Justice with Kenneth Montgomery, Esq., Keith White Esq. and Senator Jason Pizzo, Esq.

Partner Events on August 17th

  • 9:30 am: Girltrek Ubuntu Rythm & Sole: An Aerobic fitness experience featuring movements and music of the Africa diaspora

  • 6pm - 8pm : Spirits and Networking for the "soft" opening of the Overtown Marketplace, the country’s first Black-owned and operated marketplace. Coming to one of Miami, Florida’s oldest and most historically significant neighborhoods. A soft launch event on August 17th is open to media and special invitees, and will feature a wide range of shopping, entertainment, food, and more.
